Just a quick update since there hasn't been any new releases for a while, and I didn't want you to think I've fallen of the surface of the Earth.
Normally I work on a specific area of Freestyle between releases, but for 1.6.0 I'm performing major upgrades to many fundamental parts of the application.
The bad news is that the release is still some months away. The improvements are pretty extensive, basically the whole application is ripped apart and reassembled with many new subsystems added, and the basic structure fundamentally changed. Some changes cause ripple-effects so that already existing subsystems have to be reworked.
Upgrades like this are never a smooth ride, especially if you have high standards. However I'm committed to making Freestyle the absolute best in its category, and for this release that means that I have to go through a lot of pain.
The good news is that I'm super-excited about the next release. It's going to be a lot better than the current version. The improvements are not just some under-the-hood stuff, it's real stuff that matters!
Once 1.6.0 is out I plan to go back to the old scheme of rapid releases. I think they have worked very well at adding new features to Freestyle, even big ones like voxel sculpting. And 1.6.0 is going to enable a whole new slew of features.
